The mission of the American Humane Association, as a network of individuals and organizations, is to prevent cruelty, abuse, neglect, and exploitation of children and animals and to assure that their interests and well-being are fully, effectively, and humanely guaranteed by an aware and caring society.

Petfinder is an on-line, searchable database of animals that need homes. It is also a directory of over 2000 animal shelters and adoption organizations.

The Humane society of the United States is leading a massive relief effort to rescue animals and assist their caregivers in the disaster areas. There highly trained Disaster Animal Response Teams are in New Orleans and Mississippi coordinating a multi-state animal rescue and recovery effort. We now they have more than 250 people on the ground doing search-and-rescue and staffing temporary shelters, and have rescued thousands of animals from New Orleans and other areas - with many more needing our help.
