About Us

OUR MISSION is to prevent cruelty to animals by:

  • Helping provide shelter for unwanted animals
  • Developing educational programs for responsible pet ownership
  • Conducting spay and neuter programs
  • Placing adoptable animals in humane environments
  • Advocating for the humane treatment of all animals
  • Supporting animal welfare issues.

OUR GOAL is to help reduce pet overpopulation in Oconee County by:

  • Encouraging the purchase of spay and neuter certificates
  • Promoting the humane treatment of animals through our educational programs

Both the Oconee County Sheriff's Department Animal Control Unit and the Oconee Humane Society are based at the Oconee Animal Shelter. Animal Control has the responsibility for overseeing the operations at the shelter, including vaccinating and caring for the animals. They respond to animal issues and complaints in the community. The Oconee Humane Society is responsible for the adoption and spay/neuter programs.
