COME FOR A VISIT!…and check it out for yourself. The new Oconee County Animal Shelter is at 1925 Sandifer Boulevard (Route 123 across from “Square D”) in Seneca, right at the demographic center of the County; and open for business as you read this. It is highly visible, has easy access, is brand spanking new, and measures 10,000 square feet under one roof. The air conditioned and heated facility houses Oconee County Animal Control as well as the Humane Society. It is a well published fact that this has not been easy. Over the life of the project, despite the support and best efforts of many people, there were many days when we doubted it would ever happen. But then the Celebration of Cooperation put an end to the doubts. Representatives from the Humane Society, Sheriff’s Department, County government, supporters and friends all came together to celebrate a great day for the animals of Oconee County. The 4 acre property where the shelter is located is owned by the Oconee County Humane Society and leased to the County for $1 per year on a 99 year lease. The Oconee Sheriff’s Department manages Animal Control and operates the shelter. Adoptions at the shelter are handled by the Humane Society. There were many people and organizations who have donated their time, materials, and money to help make this a reality. This could not have come to fruition without them. We owe them a debt of gratitude and are thankful for their generosity. |
